Biochar association with phosphate fertilizer and its influence on phosphorus use efficiency by maize Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Santos,Sara Ramos dos; Lustosa Filho,José Ferreira; Vergütz,Leonardus; Melo,Leônidas Carrijo Azevedo.
ABSTRACT The use of fertilizers with some degree of protection of the phosphate ions can reduce soil adsorption and increase the absorption by plants, increasing the efficiency of phosphorus (P) fertilization. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a phosphate fertilizer associated with biochar in granules in a P-fixing soil in a greenhouse experiment. Biochars were produced from two sources of biomass: sugarcane bagasse (SB) and wood sawdust (WS), which were pyrolysed at two temperatures (350 °C and 700 °C). After chemical and physical characterization, the biochar samples were granulated with triple superphosphate (TSP) in a 3:1 ratio (TSP: biochar). The agronomic evaluation of the fertilizers was carried out by two successive maize crops (Zea...

Chicory yield influenced by seedling quality and growing environment Horticultura Brasileira
Souza,Luís Gustavo de S e; Ferreira,Regina Lúcia F; Araújo Neto,Sebastião Elviro de; Silva,Nilciléia M da; Uchôa,Thays L; Almeida,Waldiane A de.
ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of chicory seedlings in organic substrata and their influence on yield and commercial yield in a protected environment and under direct sunlight. Seedling and field production experiments were conducted in a randomized block design with four blocks. In the first experiment, seedlings were produced on substrata by alternating the conditioner: 1) dry coconut fiber + blend (soil, organic compost, charcoal); 2) carbonized rice husk + blend; 3) crushed ouricuri stem + blend; 4) decomposed kapok stem + blend and 5) commercial substratum. Sufficient seedlings were produced for the evaluations and transplantation. In the field phase, two experiments were evaluated, one in a protected environment and...

Effect of swine residue rates on corn, common bean, soybean and wheat yield Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Sartor,Laércio Ricardo; Assmann,Alceu Luiz; Assmann,Tangriani Simioni; Bigolin,Paulo Egidio; Miyazawa,Mário; Carvalho,Paulo Cesar de Faccio.
Swine residue (SR) applied as nutrient source of crops such as corn, bean, soybean and wheat, besides representing an environmental-friendly way of disposing of organic waste resulting from swine production, may significantly increase grain yields, replacing mineral fertilizer. The objective was to evaluate the effect of SR rates on corn, common bean, soybean and wheat yields from 2002 to 2007, in comparison with mineral fertilizer. The experiment was carried out at the Instituto Agronômico do Paraná - IAPAR, Pato Branco, PR and consisted of increasing SR rates (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 m³ ha-1) and one treatment with mineral fertilizer (NPK 4-30-10), using 250 kg ha-1 for bean and 300 kg ha-1 for corn, soybean and wheat. Also, in the treatment with mineral...

Evaluation of poultry litter traditional composting process BABT
Sanchuki,Carlos Eduardo; Soccol,Carlos Ricardo; Carvalho,Júlio Cesar de; Soccol,Vanete Thomaz; Nascimento,Camila do; Woiciechowski,Adenise Lorenci.
The objective of this work was to study the poultry litter composting and evaluate the physico-chemical and microbiological transformations as a time-function. At the end of composting, an increase of humification matter, a decrease of microbial diversity and the elimination of pathogens were observed. Results showed that poultry litter was liable of composting, without any nutritional complementation or inoculation and the process occurred similarly to other kind of organic residues.

Heavy metals and yield of cowpea cultivated under composted tannery sludge amendment Agronomy
Gonçalves, Iuna Carmo Ribeiro; Araújo, Ademir Sérgio Ferreira; Nunes, Luis Alfredo Pinheiro; Bezerra, Antônio Aécio Carvalho; Melo, Wanderley José de.
The study aimed to evaluate the phytoavailability of heavy metals (Cr, Cd, Ni and Pb) concentrations in leaves and grains, and yield of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L) grown in soil amended with composted tannery sludge (CTS) for two consecutive years. The experiments were carried out in 2009 and 2010 in soil amended with CTS at 0, 5, 10, 20, and 40 Mg ha-1. The CTS amendment rates applied were above 10 Mg ha-1, increased Cr concentrations in cowpea leaves. There were not increases in the heavy metals concentrations in cowpea grains after two years. In 2009, the application of CTS amendment did not promote increase in plant yield. However, in 2010, CTS amendment at 10 and 20 Mg ha-1 increased cowpea yield. The amendment of composted tannery sludge linearly...

The aim of the research was to compare the yields of house fly larvae using different proportions of wheat bran and swine feces as larval development medium, in a randomized block experimental design with five replications: A-100 % wheat bran; B- 50% wheat bran and 50% swine feces; C- 100% swine feces. Measurements of the temperature of the substrates, as well as the temperature and relative humidity of the place where the flies were developing were made every 24 hours. The larval yield per m2 and kg of substrate, (including the water used to moisten the larval media) were also registered. The wheat bran substrate presented the highest temperature values (36.78 oC), with values above the ambient temperature. The relative humidity varied between 44 and 68%....

The purpose of this work was to analyze the effects of plant spacing within rows by means of applying or not applying chicken manure to the soil cover in the growth and yields of roselle biomass. The treatments consisted of five spacings between plants (0.30, 0.35, 0.40, 0.45 and 0.50 m) and the application or non application of chicken manure to the soil cover in a dose of 10 ton. ha-1, arranged in randomized blocks of 5 x 2 with four replicates. The maximum plant height (282.92 cm) was achieved at 200 days after the transplant (DAT), with 0.35 m between plants and without the application of chicken manure. The leaf area was significantly influenced by the interaction of the spacings between plants and the application of chicken manure, presenting a...

Zinc, copper and manganese availability in soils treated with alkaline sewage sludge from Paraná state (Brazil) Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Dalpisol,Maristela; Serrat,Beatriz Monte; Motta,Antonio Carlos Vargas; Poggere,Giovana Clarice; Bittencourt,Simone; Barbosa,Julierme Zimmer.
ABSTRACT In Paraná, most of the sludge generated in sewage treatment plants is subjected to the prolonged alkaline stabilization process. Although it is known that the alkaline sewage sludge contains micronutrients such as Zn, Cu and Mn, little is known about the availability of these elements in soils treated with this type of sewage sludge. Thus, the objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of alkaline sewage sludge from Paraná on Zn, Cu and Mn availability in soils. Twenty sewage treatment plants were selected throughout Paraná, where alkaline sewage sludge and the most representative agricultural soil of the each region were collected. Each soil was incubated for 60 days with alkaline sewage sludge rates (0, 10, 20, 40, and 80 Mg ha-1) from...
